54 Days Down
Beginning the Monday after Thanksgiving, Ryan and I started doing the Keto diet and saw some really crazy amazing results. I'm talking 15 pounds dropped in a matter of weeks. It fell off like melting butta'. And then Christmas happened and it all went down the tube. It's really hard to keep to a strict diet around the holidays and we gained everything we'd lost in 3 weeks back in about 2 weeks due to some pretty poor choices on our parts.
So I choose to tell people that my weight loss journey started on January 2nd, 2019. A lot of women don't like to discuss their weight but I'm going to be transparent with y'all and tell you that I started at 274 pounds, which is the heaviest I have ever been.
I'm honestly not sure what went off in my brain to finally push me to make the change back in November. I had done some research into the Keto diet and how it benefits women with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, in case you didn't know) and found that it was really effective in helping to get the weight off and has even reversed symptoms in some women.
For anyone who doesn't know what PCOS is, it sucks. It isn't the same for every woman but for me it causes something called Insulin Resistance, meaning that my body doesn't produce & process insulin correctly. And this has been a huge contributing factor to the weight issues I have struggled with for my entire adult life. The largest way though that PCOS has affected my life is that it has caused me to be unable to have children. I'll talk more about my struggles with infertility another time.
So I have tried numerous "diets" and programs and hadn't had much success. I gave up for a while, figured I might as well enjoy myself, right? But when I started to see in some of the PCOS groups I'm in on Facebook that people were having some success on Keto I thought that maybe it would be worth a shot.
At the time that I decided to hop on the Keto train, I was in the process of trying to make some positive changes in my life and thought "hey, why not add this one to the list?".
I also decided to add exercise into the mix so I signed up for Beachbody on Demand. It's basically like Netflix for workouts and is the perfect fitness program for me.
Y'all, I never thought I'd be here. I used to make excuses that I can't work-out because I don't have the energy, but now I have more energy on days when I get up an hour earlier to work-out in my living room. By taking control of what I put in my body and how I treat it, I am feeling better about myself than I have in years. And it has nothing to do with a number on a scale. (Although, it does feel pretty good to see that number drop). I no longer fill myself with garbage (although I do enjoy the occasional indulgence). I am working really hard to get my body into the best shape it's ever been and it makes me feel good. While I'm looking forward to continuing to see results, I am going to choose to take joy in the journey.
54 days down, a lifetime to go. Let's do this.
